Enormous Silence

Silence sails on an enormous ocean floor,
crashing frothy waves like an invisible
ember burning to keep you warm.
Oblong rays inside a bell jar
with plastic people counterfeited
on broken lids to resemble fake humanity.
Confinement slices across thick loaves
of bread straight out of the oven,
like a lie hidden inside a globe of truth.
Small turbulence in a sickly long sea ride
leaves you bent over the floor,
smiling and smothered with salt
from lip to lip.
You hear the human noise that every
sullen,
sunken,
broken human makes
from the bottom of his throat to yours.
Your nails chip and fall
on the sandy boardwalk where
every single person walks with their bare,
disregarded feet
where every single heartbeat
is heard like an echo in a silent cave.
You cover your ears,
open your mouth
But the enormous silence still surrounds.
