Lungful

I am supposed to breathe better
know all the grammar rules
ask me how to spell a word
you will not need to look it up
here I am, your own private dictionary,
Ms. Spelling Bee.
I will give you all my love and trust
hand it over
like your money
hot and intense
bitter and addictive.
I saved myself in the courtroom
and knew I could never
end up in jail
never even fathomed the idea
that loving you
would end up destroying my psyche.
I am built for snowbanks
traffic jams
red lights
give me a lungful of your oxygen
to release me from my Indian soul.
Everyone that dreams
eventually dances alone
in their own head.
