The Internet Swallowed Me

The internet swallowed me

Began innocently enough

many years ago.

Excitedly anticipating those

three words:

You’ve got mail

Here I am years later

fully devoured

Be it on phone, laptop

or the not so social media,

The internet’s brazen child.

Floating amongst

texts looking for syntax

Relationship born

and not so subtly broken

Words that hurt

Words that heal

Mindlessly

staring at endless reels

Amazon deals

Lost cats and dogs

and kids that

bring me to tears.

Pro this and anti that

Lured to prove my point

Enticed with no reward

Walls of decency crumble.

No middle ground

No ground at all

Free falling, free speech

No longer free

Looking for the

Light way out.
