Didn’t realize you were a thorn
until you splintered under my skin,
and the blood rushed to fight infection,
and you pustuled,
and ached under thin epidermis,
finally breaking me open.

H.M. Jones is a mother, writer, teacher and poet. She is the author of Monochrome, the B.R.A.G Medallion dark fantasy about postpartum depression and the beauty of memories.
